Jenkins Enjoys Ginetta Podium Breakthrough At Knockhill

Updated: Oct 12, 2020

Will Jenkins scored a first rookie class podium finish in the Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship with a sensational performance at Knockhill (29/30 August).

A fantastic week in Scotland began with two positive days of testing, in dry conditions on Monday and mixed weather the following day. Building on that experience, the Hopkins Race Transporters backed racer finished up a brilliant fifth quickest in Friday’s opening free practice session.

The Staffordshire racer backed that up with another great display in qualifying, taking his best result of the season so far in eighth. He took full advantage of the elevated position with a sensational start to race one, gaining three places on each of the opening two laps to rise to second.

Settling into third position on the next tour, he remained there through the opening half of the race before a safety car period. At the restart, Jenkins’ charge was abruptly ended when contact from behind sent his Ginetta G40 into the gravel and out of the race.

A solid race two saw Jenkins rise from 10th on the grid to a maiden top ten finish in seventh in his Asset Alliance Group, Corroconsult and Digraph Transport Supplies machine, before he put in another star performance in the final encounter in front of the live ITV television cameras.

In the thick of the top six battle across the first half of the race, he pulled off some great overtaking moves in the closing stages to move to a seasons’ best fourth place. That secured him a richly deserved first piece of Ginetta silverware with second in the rookie class.

The 2020 Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship continues with a visit to Thruxton on 19/20 September.
