Will Jenkins Misses Out On Podium Opportunity In Luckless Silverstone Weekend

ree

Will Jenkins was left frustrated after an early race one incident derailed his challenge for silverware in the penultimate round of the 2025 Porsche Carrera Cup GB season at Silverstone this past weekend (20/21 September).

Jenkins had headed to the ‘Home of British Motor Racing’ full of confidence after a fantastic run of four Pro-Am class podium finishes in the previous six races, including a victory in each of the last two rounds at Knockhill and Donington Park.

The Staffordshire racer has a rich history at Silverstone too, taking his first Porsche Sprint Challenge GB victory in the corresponding meeting last year, alongside previous race victories there in the Ginetta Junior Championship and GT5 Challenge.

Jenkins, who is racing as part of the coveted Wera Alliance Academy young driver programme from leading BTCC outfit Alliance Racing and Wera Tools, got reacquainted with the fast and technical 1.64-mile Silverstone National circuit during official testing on Wednesday.

Further positive running in free practice on Friday set him up for qualifying the next day. The 20-year-old talent knew that small margins would separate the field around the short circuit and unfortunately on this occasion, luck wasn’t quite in his favour.

Sitting in the top five on the timesheets heading into the final run on new tyres, Jenkins’ hopes of improving were dashed when he encountered debris on the track at turn one. Having to adjust his line to avoid it, he couldn’t better his previous effort and finished up tenth overall.

That result was unrepresentative of his ultimate pace, meaning he was determined to go on a forward charge in Sunday’s opening race. The misfortune continued though, as heavy contact to the rear heading through the tight Becketts corner on lap two led to race-ending damage.

With the race one result settling the grid for race two, Jenkins would line up in last position on the grid in his Team Parker Racing prepared Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car. He pushed hard throughout the race to make as much progress as possible, working his way up to fifth in class at the finish.

Jenkins, who races with the crucial support of personal partners Hopkins Race Transporters, Asset Alliance Group, The Reefer Trailer Centre, Culina Group, Barkers Finance, The Green Group and SAF Holland, now brings his maiden Porsche Carrera Cup GB campaign to a close in two weeks’ time (04/05 October) at Brands Hatch.

Will Jenkins: This really has been a weekend of ‘what could have been’. Testing and practice gave us a good foundation for the weekend and I’m confident we had the pace for the top six in qualifying, but having to avoid debris on my tyre run cost me the chance to get that lap in.

“That put me further into the pack for the start of race one than I would have liked and unfortunately, we got caught up in an incident. I got squeezed on the inside and then hit from behind, which led to the damage and retirement. It was gutting as I felt we had the pace to make good progress in that one.

“The team did a great job to get the car out for race two, but the balance wasn’t quite right and that might be a consequence of the damage. I’m glad I was able to make up a few positions and get some points on the board, but I’m ready to put this weekend behind me now and focus on ending the season on a high at Brands Hatch.”
